Service restrictions
Service availability depends on scheduling, safe vehicle access, rider needs, and current operating resources.
The office can help confirm whether a requested trip can be accommodated before you finalize your plans.
Passenger assistance
Drivers assist passengers from door to door where it is safe to do so. They also ensure passengers and mobility aids are properly secured while on the bus.
If a passenger requires more assistance than the driver can safely provide, an attendant may be required.
Travelling with support
Seats for attendants and companions must be reserved when booking. If the office is not told about an attendant in advance, the attendant may not be able to board when the bus arrives.
The Handibus may also require an attendant when a passenger’s condition could affect the safety or comfort of the rider, driver, or other passengers.
Mobility aids
Please tell the booking office what mobility aid the passenger uses, including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, scooters, powered chairs, or other equipment.
Some devices may not be suitable for safe transportation. If a mobility aid cannot be safely loaded or secured, service may be declined for that trip.
Loading and unloading
Drivers park in appropriate and safe locations for loading and unloading passengers. If the vehicle cannot safely manoeuvre or load at a location, the trip may need to be adjusted.
Winter conditions, blocked sidewalks, steep grades, tight driveways, and unsafe road access may affect service.
Fares and payment
The fare rate is calculated based on distance travelled. Fares are one-way travel rates, and each additional stop may have an additional fee.
Fare rates are subject to review based on fuel and operating costs. Please contact the office if you need help understanding payment options.
Passenger responsibilities
Please be ready to board when the bus arrives. The driver may arrive up to 15 minutes early and can wait up to 5 minutes.
Seatbelts and proper securement must be used unless a medical exemption has been provided to the office.
Passengers must follow driver instructions and be considerate of other people on the bus.
Safety and reliability
Rocky View Regional Handibus is committed to providing clean, safe, reliable, and efficient transportation. Drivers complete pre-trip inspections and vehicles carry safety equipment such as first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
In severe weather, unsafe road conditions, or roadside emergencies, riders must follow driver instructions and office safety procedures.
